Over a decade ago two friends said "We'd like you to marry us".
My immediate reaction (after saying "Yes!") was "Wait, what? Who, you two, when, why, huh?!"
When it became clear they wanted me to lead their wedding ceremony, rather than a three way love tryst, I began researching ceremony plans, wedding words, wedding activities...basically everything to do with being a wedding celebrant and how to do it - and do it well.
I met with my friends and their family and worked out what they wanted in the ceremony, what and who was important to them, what songs they'd like, any special mentions or aspects they'd want me to include. Unwittingly, I was doing the job of a celebrant, without any training whatsoever.
The ceremony was a huge success, setting the tone for the day, and plenty of people came up to me to say "Have you done this before?" quickly followed by "You should think of doing that for a living" - and so a seed was planted.
Life events then took over and I didn't think too much about that little seed. I took a degree in Anthropology, graduated, met my future wife, got married and worked as a charity fundraiser. In this time I had been left a gift by my last surviving Aunty in her Will, to pursue something I had always wanted to do - so I took celebrant training.
My ceremonies are personal, people centred and authentic to you. I love people's stories, the journeys they have made to get to the special day we are marking and making everyone feel a part of that moment. Whatever the ceremony, I bring a warmth and empathy that can make your day feel really special - because it is really special.
So if you think I'm the celebrant for you, then please do get in touch and we can have a chat - no obligation!
Grant, the Good Egg
Hello!
My name is Grant and I'm really into people's stories. I graduated in 2019 from the University of Sussex with a first class degree in Anthropology and have used this to work within charity fundraising and being a celebrant, after a career in fashion retail.
I am very much into music and have been a DJ since a teenager in many clubs around Brighton, with a love of Funk, Soul, Exotica and old Hip-Hop - as well as a lot of 80s classics and a lot of other genres besides. I currently play out once a month in Shoreham-by-Sea with a good friend - playing all my music off of records, with a vinyl collection running into the few thousands!
One of my other passions is Brighton and Hove Albion. I am a life-long supporter, am a North Stand season ticket holder and have been to the Goldstone, Gillingham, Withdean and now The Amex following the Seagulls (as well as plenty of away-days).
I have a lovely wife, two kitties who rule us and a lovely horse called Jupiter (although I leave the riding to my wife, I'm an enthusiastic groom and a bit of a horse whisperer!)
